The team of Mahanati, the biopic of veteran actress Savitri, has been scouting for a suitable actor to don the role of Gemini Ganesan, the legendary Tamil actor who was the actress’ husband. It seems their search has ended at the door of Malayali actor Dulquer Salmaan, who was last seen by the Telugu audiences in Mani Ratnam’s Ok Bangaram.

“Several names from across the industries were considered for the role. Especially because the character requires the actor to show multiple shades of emotions. Importantly, this role is going to be there throughout the film, and is the main male lead,” reveals a source.
Obviously, the actor, who has a lean body frame will have to put on a little weight to fit into the shoes of the actor. “Dulquer is quite kicked to play the role. The makers were finding it a bit of a challenge to cast an actor in the role as it was prime to the plot. Also, it felt like a huge responsibility to cast someone to bring to life a veteran like Ganesan,” adds the source.
The Telugu-Tamil bilingual is getting bigger by the day with several big names such as Prakash Raj, Anushka, Suriya all being linked to the project, which already stars Keerthy Suresh as Savitri and Samantha as a journalist.
