Ace Bollywood director Ashutosh Gowraker, who made blockbuster films like 'Lagaan' and "Jodhaa Akbar' is planning to make his debut in the south with a magnum opus to live up to his stature and popularity. The director is in talks with a leading production house to dish out a magnum opus on legendary king 'Sri Krishnadevaraya' to enthrall Telugu and south Indian audiences in a big way.

"Ashutosh was impressed with the valiant story of Krishnadevaraya, an emperor of the Vijayanagara Empire(1471 to 1529) who was hailed as one of the greatest rulers in Indian history. He ruled the largest kingdom in India after the fall of the Islamic Delhi Sultanate. He was also conferred with revered titles like; 'Andhra Bhoja' and 'Karnatakaratna' for his eminent regime," says a source.

The director is adept in churning out periodic sagas like 'Panipat' and 'Mohenjo Daro' and has always been fascinated with Indian history and its revered rulers. "He is working on the script with his team to deliver a fascinating tale of an emperor who was a trailblazer in more ways than one. He will be erecting elegant sets to bring back the glory of the renowned Indian king, and it would be made with a whopping budget," adds the source.

The 'Swadesh' director will be teaming up with leading producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri, who made big-ticket films like 'Thalavi' and '83' for this multi-crore epic. "They are planning to rope in a top Telugu actor, who delivered a blockbuster across India recently, to play the renowned emperor along with other Bollywood and south actors to come up with a memorable and everlasting epic story," the source concludes.
