Kalki in trouble
Rajasekhar’s upcoming film Kalki landed in controversy with a young writer Karthikeya aka Prasad claiming the story to be his. After watching the trailer of the film, Karthikeya had felt that the story of the film is his, so he approached the Telugu Cine Writers’ Association. Popular writer B. V. S. Ravi, who has started ‘Katha Hakkula Vedhika’, mediated the issue between the Directors’ Association and Cine Writers Association.
‘Katha Hakkula Vedhika’ was started about a year ago with the aim to address anyone’s concerns and resolve them amicably between the two parties without going to the courts. “The script submitted by Karthikeya and that of Kalki are different and there are no primary similarities,” says Ravi. He added that many writers approach them after seeing the trailers of many films, claiming that the story is lifted from their script. “If, after our intervention, they are still not satisfied, we will take discussions further. In cases where there are similarities, the original writer will be given credit and also paid remuneration,” adds Ravi, clarifying. He then goes on to state that decisions are not taken individually but collectively. “Telugu Film Directors Association President and Secretary N. Shankar and Ram Prasad guide us to take a decision,” he says.
