A worthy challenge

Bellamkonda Sreenivas revealed that his character in Sita was the “most challenging” of all the roles that he has taken up so far.

Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas seems pretty stoked about his upcoming film Sita, which is scheduled to release this Friday. “It was a fairly challenging role, nothing like anything I’ve done in the past,” the actor said, adding that most of his films before Sita were rather commercial.

“Teja sir narrated two stories to both me and my father. Although my father insisted that I do the other film, I was spellbound by the concept and script of Sita. I also realised that Sita would demand that I push my limits as an actor, which is why I took it up,” he revealed. “Besides, such roles are very rare to come across. So I took it up as a challenge, and it has been worth it.”

The first day of the shoot was apparently considerably trying for the young actor. “I had known the first few days of a film’s shoot to generally cover the more straightforward scenes from its script. However, with Sita, I was given pages of long dialogues to prepare on day one. I was perplexed, but I did not want to give up. So I spent a few hours preparing inside my caravan and fortunately, Teja sir was impressed with my performance,” Sreenivas shared.

Apparently, the director was quite impressed after learning that day that Sreenivas could “actually act” for until then, he had mostly seen the actor either “in action scenes or driving cars” in his previous films.

The actor was also intrigued by the film’s title. “Following the narration, Teja sir told me that he had titled the story Sita. A few friends of mine did share their reservations with me regarding the film’s title, arguing that it made the film sound female-centric. However, I found the title fairly apt,” he said.

Sita also features Sonu Sood — in a negative role. “Sonu is a wonderful human being, a thorough gentleman. I first met him at our production house a few years ago. He is a very professional guy, yet quite friendly. In fact, we sometimes even hit the gym together to de-stress,” Sreenivas revealed about his friendship with Sonu Sood.

The young actor’s other film Rakshasudu is also nearing completion. “Rakshasudu is a remake. I’ve watched the original in Tamil, and I loved it. It’s essentially a police thriller which I’m anticipating, unlike Kavacham, to do well at the box office. Besides, I love playing cop,” he said.
