My strength lies in comedy films, says G Nageswara Reddy
Director G. Nageswara Reddy reveals that he initially did not want to do the film Achari America Yatra. “My earlier film got into a controversy because of one particular community, so when the producer told me about Achari America Yatra, I didn’t want to do it as it may create another controversy. But once I heard the story, I realised that it’s a good one and decided to direct it,” he says.
Interestingly, the story is written by popular writer Malladi Venkata Krishna Murthy. “It’s not a novel, but the story is written for a film. We liked the story and got it,” reveals the director, adding that comedy is his forte. “I want to make only comedy films as my strength lies in them,” says Nageswara Reddy.
What about the fact that there aren’t too many comedy films now, after filmmakers Jandhyala and E.V.V. Satyaranarayana passed away? Nageswara Reddy says that it’s not because of the directors.
“No actors want to do comedy films. Earlier, Rajendra Prasad used to do them and now, it’s Allari Naresh. Actors like Nani, Sharwanand and Raj Tarun are going for love stories, so directors are mostly making love stories or action subjects. If the actors are willing, many comedy films will be made,” he says.
His next film is also with Manchu Vishnu. “It will start immediately,” he shares. Meanwhile, the Manchu Vishnu and Pragya Jaiswal-starrer has postponed its release from January 26 to February, with the makers saying that the film is not yet censored and there is some post-production work left.
