Avika Gor receives inappropriate messages from a young Telugu actor
Tollywood’s younger actors took a positive step towards creating harmony in the industry last year, when actors such as Rana Daggubati and Allu Arjun took the initiative of organising regular lunches and meetings. The purpose of these meetings was to create a friendly work environment for the newer generation of talent.
However, actress Avika Gor, better known as Anandi from the popular TV serial Balika Vadhu, has reportedly given up hopes of pursuing a career in Tollywood, and sources say that it’s because of the attitude that’s been shown to her from some of the younger crop of actors in the industry.
According to a source, the actress was part of a WhatsApp group of which these actors were all a part of, but was recently suddenly kicked out by the admin of the group after she had shamed one of them in the group who had sent her inappropriate messages.
“The young Telugu actors include Nikhil, Raj Tarun, Sai Dharam Tej, Varun Tej, Rakul Preet Singh, Hebah Patel and many others. Avika Gor put up a screenshot of a chat history that she received from a young actor in a WhatsApp group. It became a big talking point between these actors and the admin removed her from the group,” says the source.
The source also added that while a few actresses such as Rakul, Sai Dharam Tej and Hebah came out in support of Avika, others such as Swathi Reddy — who acted alongside the actor in question for a couple of films — stood by the accused.
News about the not-so-friendly attitude of Tollywood’s heroes isn’t something we haven’t heard before. Last year, Bollywood actress Radhika Apte — who last starred in Telugu films with Balakrishna in Lion — had spoken about Tollywood being the one film industry in the country she hates, because of its patriarchal ways.
Avika had made her debut in Telugu films three years back with Uyyala Jumpala. Though her latest film Ekkadiki Pothav Chinnavada was a hit, she only had a cameo in it.
From then on, the actress has not been showing interest to act in more Telugu films, despite getting a lot of offers. “In one of her recently released films, she was supposed to play one of the female leads, but that later changed to a cameo,” adds the source.
