I used to narrate my stories to Rajamouli: Vara Mullapudi
Vara Mullapudi, the son of well-known writer Mullapudi Venkata Ramana and son-in-law of director Bapu, is making a comeback after seven years with Kundanapu Bomma. Talking about the film that will feature small stars, Vara says, “I wasn’t idle all these years. I was busy with ad films and TV serials.”
“I had wanted to do a film with a village backdrop for a long time, so I worked on the script first. Later, I narrated it to Raghavendra Rao Garu and he liked it,” says Vara. He adds that the script is not suitable for big stars, so he opted for new faces.
Sudhakar and Sudheer are the male leads while Chandini Chowdhary is the female lead. “She perfectly fits the character of Kundanapu Bomma,” he says. Most of the film has been shot in Bobbili and Vizianagaram. “The film has a lot of emotions along with entertainment,” adds Vara. He says that his father wasn’t present when the story was ready, so he took it to his father-in-law Bapu, who suggested a few changes.
Music director M.M. Keeravani has produced the film’s music. Vara is also very close to Rajamouli and his family. “I used to narrate all my stories to Rajamouli, because he is the best judge. But, I couldn’t narrate this film to him as he is busy with Baahubali,” he says.
Interestingly, a song recorded by Bapu for Gorantha Deepam (1978) – which wasn’t used, is being used in this film. “I am using the song in the film and I have taken the permission from Bapu Garu,” says Vara.
