Nawaz picks up Dakhini accent

His baddie role amps up the Saindhav appeal

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is set to debut in Tollywood with Saindhav, starring Venkatesh, and he’s dubbing in Telugu for his part! It was director Sailesh Kolanu’s idea to get the Gangs of Wasseypur star to lend his own voice in Telugu.

“Nawaz wanted to try it too. He is known to have a great voice which can lift the narrative. In the film, he plays a non-Telugu guy trying to speak in Telugu. So his way of communicating will be broken Telugu,” shares the director.

The actor has reportedly nailed the dubbing. “Hindi actors generally use sync sound (spot dubbing on the sets) so they don’t do it again separately. But for our film, after shooting, he took time to practise his lines and dubbed them in Telugu. He recreated the same magic and energy he displayed while shooting,” says the director, adding that Nawaz took the trouble of understanding the meaning of his lines to better express himself even while shooting.

Nawaz’s role requires him to speak in a Dakhini accent at times. He met with a few youngsters at the Charminar area to polish his Dakhini slang. The actor also did a one-day workshop with the film unit to understand his character. “Nawaz’s role of a baddie gives a fresh appeal to the film. His antics will hog the limelight,” Sailesh adds.
