Before the start of the Project K event at the Comic Con in San Diego, fans and the audience were waiting eagerly for a glimpse of Deepika Padukone. However, she couldn’t make it — for a valid reason. Apparently, the ongoing actors’ strike in Hollywood prevented her from attending the event, as originally scheduled.
The strike, led by the Screen Actors Guild — American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA), started a couple of months ago. The unions are protesting against labour laws in Hollywood that they say adversely affect actors and writers.
Deepika is a member of SAG-AFTRA and the union has instructed its members not to participate in or attend any promotional events for their films or commence shooting for new films until the strike is over.
