Ashok's next an int'l period flick
After the success of Bhaagamathie, director Ashok has been flooded with several offers in T-town. The filmmaker is all set to helm an international project next.
Titled Komagata Maru 1914, the period drama will showcase the historic incident (known by the same name as the title) that took place in 1914 during the British Raj.
The incident involved the Japanese steamship Komagata Maru on which a group of Indian citizens living under the British Raj attempted to emigrate to Canada in 1914 but were denied entry.
“It’s a privilege to helm a film with such great depth and emotion. I was fascinated after listening to the stories of the pre-Independence era and felt it would be great if I could bring such a rich plot on screen,” shares Ashok.
To be bankrolled by Mehmood Ali of Pen N. Camera productions, in association with the Canadian Film Council.
