Talking of relationships
Director Maruthi’s upcoming film, Prathi Roju Pandage, which is releasing on Friday, joins the club of films that revolve around relationships. However, Maruthi rubbishes comparisons, insisting first of all that the film has been inspired from real-life incidents. “My film is about how a grandfather, who is in his last days, is being ignored by his family and how his grandson helps keep him happy,” reveals Maruthi, adding, “I’ve seen several families abandoning their elders and dropping them in old-age homes. I feel it’s our responsibility to take care of our grandparents and see them through this phase of their lives. Just as we celebrate our first birthdays, when our elders near death, we need to keep them happy.” Maruthi is among those who believe that relationships are the most important aspect of life. “But unfortunately, everyone has gotten busy in this mechanical world, and there seems to be no place for relationships; people are simply drifting apart. My film shows how, as children, it’s our responsibility to take care of our elders,” the director elaborates.
We then ask the director about his choice of Sai Dharam Tej as the protagonist. “I never tried making a film that’s based on relationships, so I thought it would do well to take on Sai, who’s also never done a film that’s completely based on relationships,” Maruthi explains.
The Bhale Bhale Magadivoy director then talks about how gratifying a journey his eight years in the industry has been. “I’ve learnt to experience the joy of filmmaking,” he says. In fact, movie enthusiasts might have even noted how the director’s style of filmmaking has been evolving over the years.
“I’ve got the opportunity to direct various genre films, and as a filmmaker, that’s the best thing one can experience. You have to stay ahead of the audience and think, so it sort of makes you want to push your skills and limits.”
