Fourth flop in a row for Ravi Teja

Doling out the same Masala Raja' routine in every film, Telugu audiences seem to have had an overdose of the now predictable actor.

Telugu cinema’s ‘Masala Raja’ Ravi Teja is serving it bland these days. He has just delivered what looks like his fourth dud at the boxoffice in a row.

The film is Amar Akbar Anthony(AAA) and the first day’s collections should worry anyone who cares for the actor’s career. According to reliable boxoffice sources, AAA has managed a meagre Rs 4 crores in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on its first day. This is lower than what Ravi’s last three films Raja the Great, Touch Chesi Chudu and Nela Ticket, all flops, had collected on the opening day.

A major Telugu director explains, “While the world has moved on and major Telugu stars are experimenting with roles and characters, Ravi Teja seems stuck in a warp. He keeps playing up the ‘Masala Raja’ image with no concern for changing trends. Casting himself in a triple role in Amar Akbar Anthony was perilous. He is the paying the price.”

Shoddy scripting and poor execution are the two main villains in AAA. Above all, it is an overdose of Ravi Teja that killed his latest project even before it could really take off. And to name the film after one of Amitabh Bachchan’s most iconic entertainers (where even Bachchan did not play all the three title characters, only one) is simply suicidal.
