A few years ago, Priya Prakash Varrier floored the entire country with just one wink in the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi from the film Oru Adaar Love (2018)! However, since then, her films have not done well at the box office. Asked whether she has any regrets regarding her choice of films, she replies in the affirmative and adds that there were too many people telling her too many things.
“So I didn’t know what to follow, I didn’t know who would guide me in the right direction,” she rues. But the actress is optimistic too. “Yes, I might have made mistakes; but everything is a learning experience and I am in the process of learning. I think after four to five years I am making the right choices and trying to be a better version of myself,” she says, emphasising that she doesn’t come from a film background.
Her previous outings Check and Ishq managed only mediocre performances at the box office, but Priya is betting on her on her upcoming movie Bro. She is one of the female leads in the film starring Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej and directed by Samuthirakani.
Talking to us about how she land- ed the project, she says, “I watched the original (Tamil film Vinodhaya Sitham) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Coincidentally, I was approached for the remake and gave a look test last year. However, the director didn’t get back, and I thought I wasn’t being considered.” But much to her delight, she got a call from the director early this year, and was on-boarded. She’s overjoyed at being part of a film with an ensemble cast.
Surprisingly, the filmmakers have unveiled hardly any poster or look of Priya’s so far. Is that a strategy, we ask. “I play Veena, a simple and homely girl, but I have a unique look,” she says, revealing that her role would be a surprise package
