True story with commercial touch
Director Sampath Nandi, who’s film Gautam Nanda starring Gopichand as the lead is up for release has been getting rave reviews since the teaser released. Gopichand looks dashing in the posters and even the promotional teaser seems very impressive. When asked about the film, the director revealed a few interesting points about the film and the inspiration behind it.
“I read Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi’s book Who am I? and that’s where the idea of this film was born,” reveals Sampath, adding, “Just how Sachin Tendulkar’s son can’t become like him, no billionaire’s son can become like their father. For nearly two months, I researched top billionaires and their sons, including how they behave, their attitudes and their interests. My team worked on Gopichand’s look in the film based on that.”
“More than a year ago, there was news that a well-known diamond merchant from Surat sent his son to Kerala to live on his own so that he would learn how the lesser privileged people lived, and to understand how difficult it is to get a job. I am using that incident as an inspiration for my story too,” says the director, who explains, “There is no social message as such in this film, but the story is genuine. All my earlier films were written in a commercial way, but this is a true story into which I have weaved in commercial elements.”
He further shares, “In the book Who am I?, Sivaprakash Pillai poses a few questions to Bhagavan Ramana and that is how we get answers to many questions. Tanikella Bharani is playing the role of Sivaprakash Pillai, which is very important to the film.”
Interestingly, a few scenes from the film have even been inspired by the lives of sons of the Sheikhs in Dubai, Prince William and Harry of England and Vijay Mallya.
