Good actors should move across cultures: Lakshmi Manchu

Lakshmi Manchu talks about her upcoming films and more...

Lakshmi Manchu describes her upcoming film W/o Ram as ‘different’. “Although most films fit into a particular genre, this film is different and I can’t define it,” she says, sharing, “There are no songs, action scenes or big dialogues in the film, it just goes with the flow.”

Describing the story, the actress says, “I play a girl named Deeksha who works for an NGO. She falls in love with Ram and marries him, but an incident changes her life and she doesn’t get help from anyone.” And unlike in other films, where it takes time to establish the characters, the actress reveals, “Here, we straightaway come to the point and it continues from there.”

Dismissing rumours that the film is similar to Kahani, Lakshmi Manchu says, “People may think that way because of the film’s pace, but it is completely different from Kahani.”

The actress is also full of praise for director Vijay. “I was blown away by the narration and he has made the film in the same way too,” she says. The actress is presently doing a Tamil film, which is a remake of Hindi hit Tumhari Sulu. Lakshmi is reprising Neha Dhupia’s role while Jyothika is playing Vidya Balan’s role in the Radha Mohan directorial.

“I was born and raised in Chennai, so shooting for this film brought back my childhood memories. I wish that we can really move across cultures because we are good actors,” she says. As for her co-star Jyothika, Lakshmi gushes, “She was too cute, too nice and too sweet!”
