In its fourth week, the Tamil blockbuster "Leo" sustained its triumphant streak at the Tamil Nadu box office, amassing an impressive Rs. 2.50 crore. Despite a significant drop on Friday due to the Diwali releases, the film rebounded during the holiday, contributing to its robust collections.
The cumulative earnings of the film have now soared to Rs. 230 crore in a span of twenty-nine days. Last week, the Vijay starrer clinched the coveted title of the highest-grossing film in the state, establishing a lead of Rs. 8 crore over the previous record holder, "Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1."
This achievement marks the second time a Vijay film has secured the top spot in the list of highest-grossing films in the state, the first instance dating back to his 2004 release, "Ghilli." Despite being the reigning superstar of the Tamil film industry, this milestone had eluded him until now. In recent years, several films came close but fell short, with "Bigil" and "Master" finishing within Rs. 5 crores of "Baahubali 2," the previous top grosser.
Ironically, "Baahubali 2" held the title of the top grosser in the state for a substantial five-year duration. However, within just over a year, three films—Vikram, PS1, and Leo managed to dethrone it, with a fourth contender, "Jailer," also surpassing the once unassailable "Baahubali 2."
