Telangana demands release of Rs 450 crore grant from Centre

TS govt has MPs from the state to exert pressure on the Central government in the ongoing Parliament session to release the pending amount.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has requested the Central government to release Rs 450 crore for the nine backward districts in the state.
As per the provision in AP Reorganisation Act, the Centre released Rs 450 crore (Rs 50 crore per district) during financial year 2014-15, but did not release the funds under special assistance grant of Rs 450 crore for the development of nine backward districts.

This grant was also not released in the current financial year. Apart from its formal request for release of the funds, the TS government has MPs from the state to exert pressure on the Central government in the ongoing Parliament session to release the pending amount.

Principal planning secretary B.P. Acharya said that the state government has directed the resident commissioner of Telangana Bhavan in Delhi to pursue the matter with the Union finance ministry.

The TS government had sent details of total estimated cost of the works to be undertaken during 2016-17 and 2017-18 as desired by the finance ministry's department of expenditure so that it could release the Rs 450 crore to the state.

Officials said that the Central government had assured to release the Rs 450 crore during the current financial year for the development of nine backward districts of TS, but till date, it has not done so.
