Balakrishna's Jai Simha comes out tops
Sankranthi is a huge festival and many filmmakers eye this holiday season for their films to do well at the box office. Of the four films that released this year, including Suriya’s dubbed film Gang, it is Balakrishna’s Jai Simha which is emerging the winner.
While Pawan Kalyan’s film Agnyaathavaasi got a big first day opening, it couldn’t sustain from the second day onwards. In Nizam, Pawan Kalyan’s film was bought for Rs 27 crore, with extra spent on publicity. The collections, though, were just below Rs 10 crore, leading to the box office disaster. Other areas reported similar results. In many of the centres, Balakrishna’s film brought in more revenue than the Pawan Kalyan-starrer.
Speaking about his film Jai Simha, producer C. Kalyan says, “It’s a sensational hit and I never expected this kind of success. It will now easily join the Rs 50 crore club by the end of the coming week.”
The film collected a share of nearly Rs 21 crore in the first four days throughout the world and since Tuesday was a holiday too in both the Telugu states, collections are sure to go higher.
Interestingly, the budget of the film was around Rs 40 crore and the producer released it on his own in many areas. “I am very confident that this film will give me profits,” says C. Kalyan, adding that the temple scene has proven to be a highlight of the film. “I put crores of money into that particular scene, for which I gathered people from all over South India and nearly 3,000 artistes!”
Meanwhile, Suriya’s Gang also released during the same time in limited screens. Following positive feedback, the number of screens was doubled from the second day and the film is generating good revenues. Suriya’s tour of some places in Andhra Pradesh has helped the film’s success. However, Raj Tarun’s Rangula Ratnam is not showing any impact on these big films.
