My mum's food is healing: Pragya Jaiswal

Actress Pragya Jaiswal copes with breakthrough infection

Imagine getting infected with Covid-19 a second time, and that too after taking two doses of vaccination! Actress Pragya Jaiswal, who was down with the virus last year, recently had a re-infection.

“I was shocked when I tested positive for the second time despite vaccination,” says Pragya. She however, says that she was aware that reinfection was a possibility, and that vaccination is not a guarantee against getting the disease. The severity level would be comparatively lower because of the protection, she realised. After testing positive again, the first thing Pragya did was to make sure that she didn’t transmit the virus to her parents.

“I immediately packed my bags and isolated myself in another apartment to keep my parents safe,” she says. Being in isolation is certainly challenging. We ask her what she is going through and how she is staying positive.

Revealing that it is not difficult to remain positive, she says, “I am just taking it easy at the moment; I’m taking the multi-vitamins, fruits and fluids as advised by the doctors, eating healthy, sleeping well and just building my immunity.” She adds that she’s being patient about her recovery.

“Endurance helps recovery, that’s what I realised when I was infected the first time,” she says. “My family is next door and my mom has been sending me yummy healthy food all day so that’s where I’m getting my energy from. My mother’s food is healing.”

For someone who is a workaholic like Pragya, it must be challenging to stay indoors, we feel. But she denies that. “We have all learnt enough from the first two lockdowns (there was a vast difference in the mind-set between the two lockdowns) about how to keep ourselves busy and engaged, so I’m doing just that,” says the actress. “Also, in the last few months I was extremely busy travelling and shooting, so I missed out on watching many films,” she says, adding that she’s utilising this time to catch up on all those films.

Last year’s isolation was about waiting for things to get better, according to the Nakshatram star. She shares that the things she learned in her first isolation period last year are coming in handy during this second isolation time. “I learnt that having a routine is important. I make sure I sleep on time and wake up on time and I am disciplined. Being organised and systematic is giving me ample time to take care of myself and helping me heal faster,” she explains.

Pragya had wrapped up shooting for her film Akhanda, opposite Balakrishna. Working with him was an amazing experience, she says. “Shooting after the first lockdown, and also resuming work after the second lockdown made the film a learning experience,” she shares.
