Sumanth goes for a makeover

Actor Sumanth talks about his upcoming gangster film Anaganaga Oka Rowdy and choosing realistic scripts

Sumanth’s forthcoming film, Anaganaga Oka Rowdy, will see him sporting a full-grown beard, twirled moustaches and a lungi. In fact, there seems to be a total makeover from head to toe for his part in the film.

“This is the first time I am doing an action and crime comedy, a genre I’ve never tried so far. It’s always exciting whenever I try something different,” shares Sumanth. Interestingly, the actor plays a gangster in the Manu-Yagna directorial story, which is set in Vizag. “The name of my character in the film is Waltair Seenu. The role is intense and I sport a very rugged look to complement some gripping action sequences,” he says.

The role needed the actor to prepare for his part, physically and speech-wise. So while he had to beef up for the part, he also had to work on his accent a bit as his character needs to speak with a Vizag accent.

“The audiences will see a new me in this film,” adds the actor. “Playing rugged roles always gives me a different kind of high.” Sumanth has always experimented with roles and insists that he always aspires for scripts with a more realistic approach.

“I am constantly looking at branching out to new terrains because that’s when you can push yourself. And the best part is that I stuck to this philosophy irrespective of the box office results,” he says, adding, trying to constantly present himself in a new form with every film is an ongoing effort.

So even as others are slowly getting accustomed to shooting in the new normal, Sumanth actually shot for three films during the pandemic. “I’ve wrapped up three films including Anaganaga Oka Rowdy, Kapatadhaari and another romantic comedy. So I got used to shooting in the new normal,” he smiles, adding that this is something everyone is getting used to.
