Consult MAA before going abroad'

The association wants to oversee artistes' travel plans in light of reports of their involvement in a sex racket.

Recent reports of the arrest of an NRI businessman operating a sex racket with Telugu actresses in the US has earned the Telugu Film Industry a bad name. In response, the Movie Artiste Association (MAA), has decided to henceforth oversee actors’ travels abroad, especially to the USA.

Sivaji Raja, the president of the MAA, says that he is asking everyone to consult with the MAA before making travel plans. “Whoever wants to go to the US to participate in private events, should inform the MAA before leaving. We will guide artistes and verify if the event being organised is real or fake,” he says, adding that the association is in touch with the leaders of other organisations like TANA and ATA.

“Many event managers invite actresses for fake events and lure them with money. If actresses inform us of these invitations, we can consult with people there and look after their safety,” Raja says.

The MAA president says that everyone knows that some actresses participate in nefarious activities just for the money. “But the entire Film Industry is being blamed for the actions of one or two people. It’s good that the American government has arrested the people behind this dirty racket,” he says.
