Karthi’s take on BO expectations
After the super success of Khaidi, the expectations from Karthi’s forthcoming film with Jeethu Joseph, Donga (a dubbed Telugu version of the Tamil film, Thambi), have skyrocketed. Even as Karthi asserts that the effort he puts into every film is the same, he’s slightly unnerved when we hint at the expectations bit. “Oh, now that’s a bit scary,” he quips.
Interestingly, though it’s been 13 years since Karthi entered showbiz, he’s done only 20 films so far. “I’ve made mistakes, and I’m learning from them. As a result, I am treading this path cautiously,” he says, reflecting on his journey so far. Karthi then talks about Donga, an emotional family entertainer with elements of suspense. “I was fascinated by the film’s script, particularly the way the role of the sister has been penned. I play a role that has a lot of humour in it, and I enjoyed it a lot. The colloquial dialogues around the relationships only make the film extra special,” he adds.
Karthi and Jyothika are related — Karthi is the brother of Surya, Jyothika’s husband. However, this is the first film in which they have been cast as siblings. “When you work with performers such as Jyothika, you will also get better,” says the Awara star with a smile. Produced by Ravuri V. Srinivas, Donga hits the theatres on December 20.
