Prashanth Neel ratings soar, but falls short of S S Rajamouli?

Kannada filmmaker Prashanth Neel is being compared with ace Telugu director S S Rajamouli although his success rate is less in comparison. Actually, S S Rajamouli had delivered blockbusters like ‘Vikramarkudu’, ‘Simhadri’, ‘Magadheera’ and ‘Yamadonga’ before delivering his biggest hit ‘Bahubali’ and followed it up with another worldwide grosser ‘RRR which made more than Rs 1000 crores and also bagged Oscar awards.

"Undoubtedly, Rajamouli is far ahead of Prashanth due to his 100% success rate in Telugu film industry and also for his expertise in dishing out star-centric action films,” says a Telugu distributor and adds, “While Prashanth had done just few films like ‘Ugramm’ in Kannada before joining hands with Yash for ‘KGF’ so comparing him with Telugu director is unfair and unwarranted,” he adds.

He further states that S Rajamouli became a pan-world director and was hailed by Hollywood filmmakers like Steven Spielberg but Prashanth Neel didn’t receive such critical acclaim for 'KGF". “Hollywood filmmakers rarely appreciate other language movies and particularly Telugu films. But top guns like James Cameron, Daniel Kwan besides ‘Carnival Row’ actor James Harris along with screenwriters heaped praises on ‘RRR’ which also bagged Oscars. Rajamouli is a visionary and a master craftsman,” he points out.

Nonetheless, Prashanth Neel stocks are soaring and his upcoming film ‘Salaar’ with superstar Prabhas has been sold for over Rs 450 crores and craze for the action film is growing by the day. “He needs to deliver another Rs 1000 crore film to prove that he is capable of winning the appreciation of audiences across the world. It has been sold for hefty prices in North India and the whole of south besides US and other countries,” he informs.

The only connection between Prashanth and Rajamouli is pan-India star Prabhas and nothing else. He needs to deliver a few more resounding hits before reaching the stature and position of Rajamouli, he concludes.
