Prior to the release of Premam (the Telugu remake of the Malayalam flick of the same name), many expressed criticism, especially on social media, that Shruti Haasan may not be able to carry off the role originally played by Sai Pallavi. But to everyone’s surprise Shruti’s role of a teacher in the film, has become the highlight.
Comparing the two, she says that the Telugu character is more dominant. “She is dignified, elegant and graceful — not like me and that’s the reason I liked the character. When it comes to pressure, I am above all of it because if you notice, my surname is Haasan. I have seen pressure from my childhood and I never feel it,” she says.
The actress has now been paired opposite Pawan Kalyan for the second time, in his upcoming film, Katamarayudu, which again, is a remake. “I am a remake rani. If you look at my entire career, I have done so many remakes,” laughs the actress. She added that working with Pawan Kalyan has always been special. “Yes. My career changed with the film Gabbar Singh (first break for Shruti Haasan) and it was also a high point for me. Working with Pawan Kalyan is very special,” says the actress.
Talking about her co-star, Naga Chaitanya, she says that he is one of her dear friends. “Even before we entered movies, we were both good friends. Chaitanya has given a fantastic performance in the movie. As a friend, I am happy for him,” says Shruti.
Talking about her father’s film Sabaash Naidu, she says that the film is almost complete, except for a small part. “My character is very young, bold and modern,” she says. She added that it is very difficult to do a film in three languages. “This is the first time I have done a film in three languages — Hindi, then Tamil and Telugu. Though it is challenging, it is a learning experience for me,” she says.
Talking about her latest video Be The B**ch, she claims that she loves to write whenever she feels good about something. “Basically, through the channel The Unblush, Culture Machine allows people to express themselves and so, I thought it’s a great opportunity. I am very concerned about women and their rights. I would like to use my status and the God given position that I have today, to make a difference. I just felt like expressing it and they understood what I was trying to say.”
She added that her hands are now full with films in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. “I would love to extend my writing to films too, but right now, I am busy. Writing makes me very happy,” she says.
