The recently released poster of Shraddha Das’ film Parijatha Parvam shows a woman with a mask, tied to a chair. The actress says the Santhosh Kambhampati directorial is a female-centric comic thriller and that she will be seen in a three-dimensional role.
“There’s a mystery surrounding the title, and like the name, the film is also unique. It's a fun-filled drama with loads of surprises. My character has different shades and will be very entertaining to watch. The gripping script and my character design excited me,” says Shraddha. “There’s a past and present to the film, and I was laughing throughout when I heard the script, she recalls.”
Interestingly, after a long time the actress has crooned a song in the film; it plays during the title credits. “The last time I recorded a number was several years ago, for composer Devi Sri Prasad,” she reveals, adding that she has been wanting to sing more often.
“I have been singing on and off at programmes, so the filmmakers suggested I sing this number. I was excited, and recorded the peppy song in two hours,” the actress shares, adding that the song also has a thriller vibe to it.
Shraddha made her film debut with Siddhu from Srikakulam in 2008. And in the last 15 years, she has worked in more than 40 films in multiple languages. Quite an achievement, especially for an outsider.
“I am thankful for the opportunities I got and I am blessed to be working in multiple industries. I have had my share of struggles, but what I have realised is that a good actor doesn’t have a shelf life. You have to stay relevant and keep up with trends,’ Shraddha asserts, adding that she has always liked acting.
The different roles she has played in various films kept her going, the actress reveals, and adds that working in multiple languages got her a wider audience. While she has slowed down a bit in terms of doing Telugu films, the actress has compensated by working in roles that excite her in other industries.
Comparisons with career graphs of co-stars do arise, but Shraddha doesn’t want to get into that. “You are unique, so don’t emulate or compare yourself with others,” she comments, adding, “I always spend time working to improve myself.”
