Narrating India's rich history

Nabhamsi is a fictional depiction of the forgotten Indian dance art forms and the culture of over a thousand years ago

When most filmmakers have been penning stories for box-office success, New-York-based filmmaker Ram Alladi seems to be braving in the field with something unique. The award-winning director has recently commenced shooting for a film, titled Nabhamsi.

“The film will be majorly shot in the US and I try to showcase the different dance forms and the cultures that prevailed a thousand years ago,” explains Ram, who earlier worked on documentaries such as Chiselled and Ra’s Metanoia.

Apparently, the conversations and the dialogues in the film will be in Sanskrit and English. “That’s because I can narrate the film with deeper emotions. Moreover, as the subject is universal, I hope to cater to a wider audience,” reveals Ram, adding that Saritha Navaali also worked on the dialogues.

Talking about the film, he clarifies that it is only a fictional depiction of Indian culture and doesn’t have anything to do with the Puranas.

“The story is about the relationship between a wife and husband, of whom the latter goes in search of his roots,” elaborates the director, who describes the film as the first Sanskrit-fictional romantic drama.
