Jaanu, the Telugu remake of the Tamil hit 96, produced by Dil Raju, released last week. Samantha and Sharwanand play the lead in the film. However, word has it that many had cautioned Dil Rau from doing this remake when he had initially bought its remake rights, advising him to dub the original version into Telugu instead. But Dil Raju went against all odds and risked the remake, seeming confident about its success. Sadly for Dil Raju, despite the positive reviews from everyone, including critics, the film bombed at the box-office — the first time that Dil Raju’s estimation has gone wrong completely. (Interestingly, too, this was the first remake he made in his entire 20-year film career.) In single theatres, we hear, the movie has done even worse, turning into a big loss for the producer.
Of course, with his recent profits on the Sankranti releases, this loss might make no dent on him, but for an experienced producer such as Dil Raju, we just hope such a failed prediction is not the sign of things to come.
