Sundeep Kishan is going places. His web series Family Man has been a big success and his last film has also given him a much-needed break. “I got very good response with the web series and got calls from Mumbai, too. I am also happy for Raj and DK, who also got a lot of acclaim after the series,” says Sundeep Kishan, adding that he was originally not a part of the series but agreed to do it for his friends, Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru, the creators of the series.

Now, the actor is confident about his upcoming film Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL, too. “I am playing a lawyer and my character does out-of-court settlement for pending cases. It’s a quirky humour with a simple and sweet story. I enjoyed a lot while shooting and had lot of fun. The comedy is part of the story and not separate,” says the actor.

The actor talks about the exciting space he is in and tells us that it is for the first time in his life that he is planning his movies. “I’ve decided to become very careful about my choice of cinema from now on. Some of my films didn’t do well, so I decided to take care about the content. That’s why my last film belonged to the horror genre, this one is a comedy and my next one is a sports drama,” he says.

Recently the Telugu film Prasthanam was remade into Hindi with Sanjay Dutt playing the lead, but the movie was a big disaster. “I really couldn’t judge it, but the Telugu film released nine years ago, and it was relevant for that time. So, I personally feel the timing didn’t work for the Hindi version,” explains Sundeep.

Talking about his next film, the sports drama based on hockey, Sundeep says he is planning to get trained. “We are going to get trained in hockey at Begumpet although we haven’t decided who would coach us, but there is a 15-day training session before the shoot starts,” states Sundeep.

We then ask him about his last film, which was supposed to release in Tamil but hasn’t yet. The actor, in turn, surprises us, saying that he is not keen to do more Tamil films.

“Tamil cinema is in a very bad shape now, with many big films struggling to release and some others cancelling even their morning shows. The relations between producers, financiers and distributors are complicated and Tamil cinema is not in a good position at present,” he says, adding, “I’ve completed three films and I don’t when they’ll release, but from now onwards I don’t want to do Tamil films. I want to focus on Telugu. I did Tamil films because of a little recognition I have there, but that got people saying that I left Telugu and went to Tamil. But one is for sure, wherever I go, I am a Telugu boy and my focus is forever here only.”
