Epic price for an epic film
The craze and stakes for S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 are only going higher. While the second part of the movie is slated for release only in April next year, the Nizam area distribution rights have already been sold out for a whopping Rs 50 crore.
This was confirmed by the filmmakers on Twitter, when they posted, “We are pleased to confirm that Narayan Das Narang and Sunil Narang of Asian Enterprises have acquired the Nizam rights for #Baahubali2.”
While Baahubali was one of the largest grossers in the Telugu film industry, this will be the first time that a Telugu film’s distribution rights, for one particular area, has been bought for a record price.
Part one of Baahubali collected nearly Rs 43 crore in the Nizam area, and now Sunil Narang has upped the stakes to grab the rights for the second part.
Part one of the film was distributed by producer Dil Raju for Rs 25 crore, but this time, he is not part of the competition. Trade analysts expect the film to collect nearly Rs 60 crore in the Nizam area alone. The film’s shooting is almost complete; except for two songs and some patch work.
