Anushka Shetty starrer Rudhramadevi for Oscars
The 2015 Anushka Shetty-starrer Rudhramadevi might not have seen great box-office success, but the filmmakers do have some good news. The film has now been shortlisted, from a number of Telugu films, for the Oscar Award in the Best Foreign Language Film Award category.
The Film Federation of India had recommended Rudhramadevi and subsequently informed the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce about the step. However, celebrations will have to wait, as this is just the first phase.
The committee will then pick one film from the list of films recommended (from various languages) to represent India. Later, the Oscar nomination committee will scrutinise all the films from different countries and select five from those.
“It’s good that our film has been selected. The content of the film is what took it to that stage,” said director Gunasekhar. However, he added that he doesn’t know about the other films in the competition, so he can’t comment about the chances of his film representing India.
