Prabhas's nod for digital rights as pay for Salaar?

Baahubali star reducing the burden on producer with his new strategy

Reigning star Prabhas is reportedly going to take over digital rights of his upcoming action film ‘Salaar’ as part of his remuneration after pocketing a nominal advance amount of Rs 10 to 15 crore in cash. “With big budget flick crossing Rs 200 crores, Prabhas has preferred to take digital rights that would work out Rs 55 to 60 crores and even more depending upon on commercial success of the film. It also reduces the burden on the producer,” says a source.

Similar to Prabhas, Telugu superstars should also change their strategy and take over digital rights since producers could recover their investments through theatrical rights, Hindi dubbing rights and others. “Using their brand image, a Telugu star is better placed to trade off his film for digital platform for a fancy price over a producer. Actually, international digital giants are fascinated with star-studded films and would like to associate with big stars personally. Enabling a star-digital brand deal very lucrative,” he adds.

It is high time other big Telugu stars like Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan and Jr NTR also join the bandwagon and reduce the burden of Telugu producers. “Actually, most of the Telugu stars are rich so they could try this digital rights option to keep the industry going, since producers of some star films are going through tough times and can't afford to pay hefty remunerations in cash,” he concludes.
