It was my wish to direct a film and I did it: Akella Peri Srinivas

51-year-old Akella Peri Srinivas' dream of directing a film has finally come true.

In recent times, several young directors have come up with innovative and successful films. Now, breaking all norms, Akella Peri Srinivas is making his directorial debut at age 51 with a film titled Premaku Rain Check, starring a new lead pair.

“I actually wanted to make a film all my life and this idea has been in my head since 1996,” shares Srinivas, who decided to concentrate on his career first before embarking on his plan. Srinivas was born and brought up in Hyderabad and completed his Engineering and MBA too. He then worked in the financial field, and started his own software company before making his dream come true.

“I spent three months in the US in 2003 when I again got the idea of making a film. Initially, I thought I would only produce it, but later I decided to direct and produce the film,” he says.

But it was finally in 2015 that Srinivas came closer to fulfilling his ambition.
“I discussed the idea with a few of my friends who encouraged me. Since I owned a software company, my story also shows love in a corporate setting,” he reveals.

As for the phrase, ‘Rain Check’, Srinivas explains that it’s an American tradition. “The word is used mostly in America to defer an appointment, which is what I did with my film. Hence the title,” says Srinivas.

The film features newcomers Abhilash, Priya Vadlamani and Mounica. “I didn’t work under any filmmaker. I just took help from the Internet for everything. I also had a few friends in the industry like Indraganti, Sharat Marar and Harish Shankar,” says Srinivas, who adds that he is planning to release the film on August 23.
