Karnataka: No good news for guest lecturers
Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy categorically ruled out regularising the services of nearly 13,000 guest lecturers working in degree colleges across the state. Replying to a debate initiated by BJP member Amarnath Patil under rule 330 in the Legislative Council on Friday, Mr. Rayareddy said that, to regularize the service of guest lecturers in the state there are legal hurdles, even UGC rules will not permit their regularisation.
With the KPSC already appointing lecturers to vacant posts, regularization of guest lecturers is not possible. Along with the financial burden, existing rules do not permit the government to regularize the service of guest lecturers. Regarding the delay in payment of salary to guest lecturers, the government will definitely look into the issue, the minister assured. But there is no provision under the Cadre and Recruitment Rules to regularize the service of guest lecturers, he said.
