Hyderabad: Television serial actor Balaji was booked by the Jubilee Hills police after a junior artiste, Bhagya Lakshmi, claimed that he had not paid her Rs 17 lakh in return for donating a kidney to his wife.
The kidney was donated in June last year. Ms Lakshmi approached the Jubilee Hills police with actress Sri Reddy and lodged a complaint against Balaji on Wednesday.
According to her complaint, Balaji’s wife Krishnaveni was suffering from renal failure since 2016 and the couple was looking for a donor. Balaji asked Ms Lakshmi to donate a kidney and offered her Rs 20 lakh.
Ms Lakshmi agreed and took Rs 3 lakh as advance. After the surgery, Balaji refused to pay her the rest of the money, she said.
Ms Lakshmi, “When he approached me for the kidney, I agreed because I needed money for my daughter’s heart surgery. He paid me Rs 3 lakh advance but is refusing to pay the rest of the money. When I asked for the amount after donating the kidney in June 2017, he verbally abused me.”
