Shaivites want ban on Devuda' teaser
Hyderabad: Members of the Brahmin community have approached the Telangana State DGP complaining against two film makers for allegedly mocking Lord Shiva in their film Devuda. The petitioners alleged that the film’s teaser contains offensive acts by some of the characters. The teaser showed four youngsters feeding chicken and alcohol to a Shiva Linga. It also showed youths throwing cigarettes at the Shiva Linga.
Meanwhile, the film’s director Sairam Dasari claimed that these practices exist at the Kabri Manjunath Temple in Karnataka and he had just portrayed it in his film. The petitioner M.V.R. Sharma and fellow members from the community met DGP Anurag Sharma on Monday seeking action against the filmmakers and a ban on the film as it hurt the feelings of Brahmins. The teaser which was released five days ago on Youtube had drawn flak from many quarters due to the outrageous acts of some of its characters.
“The teaser starts by showing young men and women hanging out at different places. Then the teaser turns offensive with one of the characters throwing a picture of the deity on the floor. The next two scenes show the youths sitting in front of a Shiva Linga with bottles of alcohol, and one of them feeding raw chicken flesh to the Linga. It also shows them pouring alcohol on the Linga and throwing cigarettes. All these acts are very offensive and hurts our religious sentiments,” said one of the petitioners. DGP Anurag Sharma directed a senior police official to probe the matter and submit a report. No case has been booked.
