Rajinikanth to play DGP
The suspense surrounding Rajinikanth’s role in his forthcoming film Darbar has come to an end, with sources revealing that the superstar has been cast in the role of a Director General of Police (DGP).
While Rajinikanth has played cop in his earlier films, this role is said to be totally different and new. His antics, coupled with his trademark mannerisms, will only make the character special. The actor has apparently been working out for the last six months to lose weight and make his role look authentic for the A.R. Murugadoss directorial.
A source informs, “Rajinikanth will be seen as a police officer who goes to Mumbai from Chennai on a mission. The action drama also explores an emotional relationship between a mother and a son.” Lyca Productions is bankrolling this entertainer (with N. V. Prasad releasing the Telugu version) on a huge scale of more than `250 crore. Apparently, the film’s producer Allirajah Subaskaran is shelling out `100 crore as Rajinikanth’s remuneration.
Meanwhile, Mahesh Babu has unveiled the poster of Rajinikanth from the Telugu version of Darbar. “Extremely happy to present the Telugu motion poster of Rajinikanth sir's #Darbar. Love & respect always! Best wishes to AR Murugadoss sir & the entire team, (sic),” wrote Mahesh Babu on Twitter.
