Kalyan Ram is a dedicated actor: Abhishek Nama

Young producer and distributor Abhishek Nama expressed happiness about working with Nandamuri scion Kalyan Ram in their upcoming ‘Devil’. He claims that it is an interesting tale of a British secret agent who has a mission on hand. He claims to have stalled his distribution business because distribution rates have hit the roof. He shares his thoughts with Deccan Chronicle.

Q: How was it working with Kalyan Ram in ‘Devil’?

A: It was a fantastic and wonderful experience. Kalyan Ram garu is a very dedicated and hard-working actor. He is a director’s actor because when we wanted him to go in for a complete make-over, he stepped into dhoti and kurta and brought the vintage retro-look back to life. It has received tremendous response and I wish to work with him again.

Q: Spy thrillers like ‘Agent’ and ‘Spy’ have bombed? How different is your British agent story?

A: Our film is quite unique and path-breaking, unlike other thrillers. Our film depicts the valiant story of a smart British Secret Agent and it is set in the pre-Independence era. His style and mannerisms will be unique, besides his investigation and findings with limited tools (available those days), will grip the audience. In terms of the hero's look, we were inspired by revered Telugu poet Tenali Ramakrishna and worked our hero’s attire around it.

Q: We learnt that you are planning a sequel to ‘Devil’ and what about your other film ‘Garuda’?

A: It is true that we are contemplating making a sequel to ‘Devil since it has enough scope, but it is too early to talk about it. We are also looking forward to our other film ‘Garuda’ with talented actor Satyadev and it is getting ready. It will be a nail-biting thriller boasting of a novel plot.

Q: Why have you stopped distributing movies?

A: We have halted our distribution business since footfalls at theatres have come down drastically. Besides, producers are quoting exorbitant rates for distribution and it has become a risky business proposition these days. Of course, we released our film ‘Ravanasura’ and will be releasing our other movies through our network. Until something really exciting comes our way, we will keep distribution at bay.
