Women need to stick together'

There was a display of the industry's woman-power at the trailer-launch of W/o Ram.

Lakshmi Manchu kick-started the promotions for her upcoming film W/o Ram with a trailer-launch event on Friday. Representing successful women at the event were Shilpa Reddy, Swapna Dutt and Rakul Preet Singh. They praised Lakshmi’s efforts.

“Lakshmi is our gang-leader. If we wanted to threaten anybody, we would call Lakshmi for help,” Swapna joked, adding, “If I’m feeling tired after a hectic day and I pass Mohan Babu’s house, where hoardings of Lakshmi’s films, TV shows and web series have been put up, I realise that she’s doing all these things without a rest and that I myself have a long way to go.”

Lakshmi also used the occasion to praise her friends. “I have friends like Rakul, Swapna, Shilpa, and about 15 others, who respond immediately whenever I call them for something. I am ever-grateful for all of them,” she said. The actress talked about woman-power in the industry and said that women needed to stick together. “One day, after a hectic shoot, I called Swapna and told her that I was coming to her house, without any agenda. I said, ‘There are only a few of us girls in the industry; we have to be in touch with each other, and we have to do films together,” she said.

Mohan Babu, who was one of the chief guests of the event, praised his daughter’s hard work and discipline. “I felt sad to hear about recent developments in the film industry. I was in America at that time; I watched silently and felt sad,” he said.

The actor revealed that he had once offered a role to Shilpa Reddy, but she had declined it. “I asked Shilpa to act in a film, and she agreed to do it, but a few days later, she said that she didn’t want to do it. I have been friends with her father for a long time,” he said. Nara Brahmani, Namrata, Upasana, and Geetha Reddy, though they were invited, couldn’t make it to the event because of unavoidable commitments.
