Never had any qualms about screen time: Poorna
While on one side, Poorna has been playing leading-lady roles, on the other, she also features in crucial cameos role. What’s more, she has clarified she has no qualms in playing roles with grey shades in them.
But when we begin our interaction with her, the first question that intrigues us is why it does not matter to her that despite being a lead actress, she is offered cameo roles.
Her reply is matter-of-fact. “How does it matter?” she asks. Then she adds, “I’ve been in the industry for over sixteen years and all through my career I’ve done roles that I found interesting, also becoming a part of cameos and special songs too. So what matters to me is the impact my role creates and I never had any qualms about my screen time.”
Impressionable cameos over forgetful leads
The Avunu actress is expected to be seen in a significant role in Balakrishna’s forthcoming film under director Boyapati Sreenu. “I have signed the film for the intensity that surrounds my role,” she shares. “Moreover, working with someone such as Balakrishna garu is an absolute pleasure.”
Likes and interests aside, how difficult is it for the Sundari actress to strike a balance between playing the lead role while doing special appearances? “It boils down to how your role drives the narrative,” the actress tells us.
“I’ve heard several scripts in which I’ll be seen throughout the film, leaving no impact in the minds of the audiences once they step out of the theatre. Now, why would I play such roles? I’d rather be pleased to play a cameo that creates a lasting impression.”
Letting her work talk
The actress, who acted in the 2015-film Raju Gari Gadhi, admits that she considers herself lucky for such a long journey in the industry. “When I debuted in 2004, I never thought that I’d last for sixteen years. Being a rank outsider, I struggled to understand the dynamic of the industry,” she says, smiling.
“But I’d like to thank my filmmakers for coming up with scripts and roles that are tailor-made for me. I feel that is a perfect indicator of your growth curve, and I feel blessed and fortunate for such a long stint.”
