Actor Allu Arjun’s recent video of talking to two-year-old daughter Arha has gone viral. While thousands of fans commented on the video, calling it cute and adorable, something about the video didn’t appeal to everyone’s sensibilities. In the video, Arjun is seen asking his daughter to marry a man of his choice and Arha replies with a ‘no no’. He in a very playful manner tells her that she will have to marry a man of his choice. This goes on for several minutes.
However, according to child psychologists, this conditioning in any manner is not a good thing. “When a child at this age listens to what his/her father says, they automatically believe that this is the right thing to do. However, as they grow up and meet people, conflicts arise between what is taught and what they want to do. This leads to further problems in the parent-child relationship,” says Jayanti Sundar Rajan, consultant psychologist and parenting expert.
Srilata Srikant, clinical psychologist, says, “We don’t know the context in which he asked his daughter this. On the one hand it can be dismissed as ‘playful’. We ask kids such inane questions just to provoke and see what the response is. Parents have to deal with such matters sensitively though.”
Amongst thousands of people who commented, Arjun’s wife Sneha replies to this video and asked Arjun, “Did you marry the girl which your father suggested?” The actor replies to her and asks his wife the same.
