Chiranjeevi garu is a phenomenon: Director Bobby

Director Bobby feels he has evolved as a writer in the process of writing the script for the Megastar's film

When director Bobby got the opportunity to narrate a script to Chiranjeevi on the sets of Acharya last year, he was overwhelmed. “I have been raised watching Chiranjeevi garu’s films and I am thrilled that I got the opportunity finally,” shares Bobby.

In his film, which was formally launched a couple of days back, Chiru will be seen in a rugged avatar. “My objective is to bring back the Chiru we saw in the 1990s when he was in his element,” the director says.

For the director, travelling with Chiranjeevi has been an enriching experience. He saw how Chiru’s inputs improved the script. Bobby feels he has evolved as a writer while developing the script. “As a writer, I have realised that I need to look at the film in totality and not just at a character. This is what I have learnt from Chiru garu and I will follow these tips for my future films too,” he says.

The Jai Lava Kusa helmer says that it’s exciting to work with someone who’s young in his ideas. “I could learn so much even before commencing the shooting, so I can imagine the learning curve once the film will go on the floors. Having worked closely with Chiru, I realised what it takes to be a megastar. He can easily rest on past laurels but he’s never complacent. At this age, Chiru garu is dynamic. He is a phenomenon. But the most important thing he wants is a bound script,” says Bobby.

“I have realised the significance of having a bound script and how much even a legendary actor like Chiru puts his image aside and surrenders to the script. He believes the script is everything,” shares the director.

Having spent more than 13 years in the industry, Bobby says that his journey has been satisfying. “I worked in various capacities — script doctor, screenplay writer, director, etc. The rich experience made me understand how creative the field is and how important it is to constantly come up with engaging scripts,” he says, signing off.
