Tollywood’s Mega Star Chiranjeevi and top comedian Brahmanandam are in the news for the wrong reason. Recently, when Brahmanandam appeared as the chief guest on a reality show hosted by Chiranjeevi, he recalled his old days with director Jandhyala, who had introduced him to Telugu cinema. Chiranjeevi too had worked with the director in a few films. While Brahmanandam praised Jandhyala, he also spoke about the director’s alleged issues with alcohol and this didn’t go well with the director’s wife, Annapurna.
Soon after the show went on air, Jandhyala’s wife Annapurna called Brahmanandam and objected to his remarks. Apparently, Jandhyala had shared the stage with Brahmanandam at an event, wherein the actor-filmmaker asked the comedian if he looked drunk. Brahmanandam shared this incident on the show. “Yes, I called Brahmanandam and told him that it was not right on his part to talk about my husband’s issues with alcohol, which is not true,” said Annapurna, adding that she didn’t see the entire episode as she was out of town.

“My daughter saw the programme and the authorities from the TV channel sent me the clipping. I objected to Brahmanandam’s comment about my husband and so they promised to edit that part out,” she says, adding that Brahmanandam later apologised to her for his comments. Annapurna also mentioned that she didn’t call Chiranjeevi or talk to him about this episode. “He is the host and should avoid this kind of talk,” she said.
The officials from the channel aired the episode on Hotstar, but removed the controversial statement from it. Continuing her outrage, Annapurna added, “Both Brahmanandam and Chiranjeevi are well educated and both are kind hearted. It is not good to talk such things about a person who is no more with us.” When DC tried to contact the top comedian about the same, he was unavailable for comment.
