Cycle continues to reign in tinsel town
Tinsel town’s love affair with the bicycle has only grown stronger over the years. If recent movies are anything to go by, the evergreen prop’s popularity soars high even today!
From yesteryear’s screen icons like NTR, ANR and Shoban Babu to today’s stars, Pawan Kalyan, Ram Charan and Mahesh Babu —Tollywood continues to pedal away to glory. Be it Pawan Kalyan in his forthcoming film, Agnaathavaasi, Mahesh Babu in Srimanthudu or Ram Charan in Dhruva — these stars have more than demonstrated their histrionic skills with a bicycle as prop!
Pawan Kalyan’s latest poster from Agnaathavaasi shows the actor holding a buckle and all set to embark on a ride. And who hasn’t whistled after watching Mahesh Babu’s heroics with a cycle in Srimanthudu? The iconic scene where the superstar rides a bicycle to confront goons in a mango grove is arguably the best scene in the action drama.
“Since the protagonist comes to the village to adopt it, we believed that riding a bicycle would suit my personality. Also, in a typical rustic set up, a bicycle is the easiest form of transportation. I think the way the cycle was portrayed, it almost became a character in the film,” says Mahesh Babu.
When Rakul Preet Singh says, “This is the best moment in my life,” in a lead up to a song in Ram Charan-starrer, Dhurva, it perfectly captures how the hero is going to paint the town red on his bicycle.
“It is a soothing number that had to bring out Rakul Preet’s love for Ram Charan, while showing the hero’s fitness during his academy training. I guess there’s no better way to show athleticism than through cycling,” explains the film’s director, Surender Reddy.
Actor Sharwanand’s romantic act on a bicycle to woo Mehreen in the track, My love is back from Mahanubhavudu was beautifully shot, while Nithiin’s Me-time romantic moments with the leading lady, Megha Aakash, was aesthetically portrayed in LIE.
