Table profits for Vijay Deverakonda

Actor Vijay Deverakonda’s business sense ensures profits for Meeku Matrame Chepta.

Actor Vijay Deverakonda became a producer with the recently released Meeku Matrame Chepta. The small-budget film, which released last week and did reasonably well especially in the multiplexes, appears to be headed to bringing profits to Vijay. Incidentally, Vijay had promised his friend Tharun Bhascker a film with Tharun in the lead role. (Tharun had directed Pelli Choopulu, which had given Vijay a break in Tollywood, and Vijay may have wanted to show his gratitude by having Tharun in Meeku Matrame Chepta.) As per a source, Maa TV had already acquired the satellite and digital rights of the film before its release. “Maa TV saw the film ahead of its release and acquired the satellite and digital rights of the movie for an amount of `3 crore,” the source says. It was popular producer and director Madhura Sreedhar, who’d helped Vijay to sell the satellite rights. Thereafter, Sunil Narang of Global Cinema also bought the theatrical rights for a good price. Given these deals, Vijay seems to have made some profit even before the film released.
