Katta Rambabu, a Telugu films producer, is now in the news for his film on slain gangster Nayeem. Interestingly, Rambabu is a lookalike of the gangster and perfectly fits the role!
“I know I look like him. That’s how the idea of the film came to me. After he died in a police encounter, I immediately decided to make the film,” he shares.
He has decided to produce the film and star in it himself, and has chosen Parepalli Bharath as director. When asked why he chose a director who does not have any hits to his credit, he replies, “I have so many years of experience in the industry as I have worked with top directors and producers. I look into everything personally.”
Even director Ram Gopal Varma wanted to make a film on the gangster and had tweeted about it during the encounter. So, why didn’t he approach RGV to direct the film? “I spoke to Ram Gopal Varma on the phone, but never approached him for directing this film because I want to make a film using my own script,” says Rambabu, who knew Nayeem.
“I spoke to him on the phone a couple of times. Once I decided to make this film, I went to his native place and spoke to his family. I spoke to Nayeem’s assistants too,” he says.
So, does he get calls from them now? “Yes, I get threatening calls from his assistants asking how I am portraying him,” says Rambabu, adding that he will reveal many facts about Nayeem in the film. “He played with snakes as a child and took them to college with him,” reveals Rambabu. Interestingly, the film doesn’t raise the subject of Nayeem’s links with political or police circles....
