Chinmayi Sripada’s nomination filed a few days ago, for the post of Dubbing Union president in the elections scheduled for February 15, has been rejected. Radha Ravi, who has been heading the Union for several terms now, has been declared elected unopposed.
The nominations were scrutinized by the Election Officer, Justice Ravi (Retired). He dismissed the singer-voice artiste’s petition, saying she was not eligible to contest the elections as per the rules and byelaws of the Union.
Talking to the media, Chinmayi said the move was ‘expected’. She added that she would fight it in court. “Despite the fact that the court gave me an interim order saying I have all the rights to be a member, I don’t understand how the Honourable retired Justice Sri Ravi decided I am not a member,” she said.
In posts on her social media handle, Chinmayi said “Mr Radha Ravi has won ‘Unopposed’ and they rejected my nomination it seems. The point of having an election officer is to make sure that the elections are conducted in a fair manner. And then said election officers decide I am not a member of the Dubbing Union based on whose orders? Mr Radha Ravi’s orders?”
In another tweet she said, “Anyway I’ll take this up legally. Mr Radha Ravi will have to stand opposed. Whatever said and done. And the Ramarajyam team stands precisely for that reason.”
Earlier, Chinmayi was banned by the Union after she brought up Radha Ravi’s name in the #MeToo movement and alleged questionable leadership practices in the Dubbing Union. However, the court granted an interim stay on the ban last April, allowing her to work.
