Mahesh Babu dumps period drama!

The superstar is in no mood to do a film set against the Razakar backdrop in '40s.

While Mahesh Babu’s next project under director Sukumar has generated plenty of interest, the latest buzz doing the rounds is that the film has left its makers unhappy.

Rumours are rife that director Sukumar had narrated to Mahesh Babu a period script set against the Razakar backdrop. However, the actor didn’t evince any interest in the subject nor was he keen on doing such a film.

Apparently, a couple of other big ticket period flicks (including Chiranjeevi-starrer Sye Raa) are hitting cinemas next year. Hence, Mahesh felt that there’d be an overdose of ‘period dramas’, and wasn’t keen on taking it forward. Moreover, a period drama requires a head-to-toe transformation, for which Mahesh isn’t game.

A source informs, “Mahesh Babu and Sukumar have been holding in depth discussions on the kind of script to be worked on, after the former had rejected a period story. The director has now just started penning a new script to suit Mahesh’s sensibilities and market image.
