Mad' about Kajal Aggarwal

A tete-a-tete with South Indian star Kajal Aggarwal who was in Bengaluru for an event launch on Friday evening.

This doe-eyed beauty has juggled Kollywood and Tollywood with equal panache showing bare signs of faltering in her decade long career, filled with awards and accolades. We catch up with Kajal Aggarwal at a product launch, where she spoke about her profession, upcoming films, her love for travel and other passions.

“I’ve come to Bengaluru many times — for events, couple of shoots and in transit. My cousin also lives here so I come often. I would love to do Kannada movies, but my schedule is packed till May next year. After that if there’s something interesting, I would take it up,” states Kajal as she rushes back to Mumbai where she’s based.

“I try to go home as much as I can, although I’ve been living independently, I do go when I can or my folks come over,” she adds. I’m a travel buff and travel a lot with my mother,” she adds.

We prod the 31-year-old Punjabi girl on what she feels about having that edge over other south-Indian stars and carving her own niche down South and she smiles with a twinkle in her eye and states, “I think it’s my eccentricity. I’m a little mad. You can’t survive here if you’re too sane. Also my spontaneity and discipline. I don’t take my stardom seriously. I started out when I was 22 and had no Godfather. I came up the hard way, made mistakes and did films that I wasn’t convinced about. But then I learnt the toughest lesson — to say ‘No’. I learnt to put my foot down and started doing films that I was comfortable doing. I am now at a phase, where I can pick and choose the roles that I want. Thuppakki and Maattrraan in Tamil and Mr Perfect and Magadheera in Telugu will always be my favourites. I’m currently shooting with Ajith for Thala 57 in Tamil, where I play a mature role. Another film I’m kicked about is with Rana Daggubati, a political drama in Telugu, directed by Teja. I’m also doing another film with Dhanush.”

Talking about her role with Chiranjeevi in the upcoming Khaidi No 150, Kajal who’s shooting for five films currently, states, “I’m excited about the release of this film. I prepare for every role. I recently played the role of a visually impaired girl and went to a blind school for my last film. I learn the script by heart to get into the shoes of my character. I know language is important and I’m fluent with Telugu, but I’m still trying to master my Tamil. I have a good rapport with my costars Tamannah, Rana and my director Vamsi, but it’s my school and college friends that are really close to me. And of course, my sister.”
