Regina picks up Jiu-Jitsu

‘It’s fun to beat up baddies,’ says the actress

Regina Cassandra is one of the fittest of the South divas. So far, we have seen her adventurous side only off screen. But for the first time, the actress will be doing daring acts on film.
Regina will be seen as a trainee cop in the film Shakhini Dhakhini, a remake of Korean film, Midnight Runners, along with Nivetha Thomas.

“I have few stunts to perform, so I had to train quite a bit for my actions sequences,” she says. “I am not just playing a cop, the whole experience is unique,” Regina says, and describes shooting for the Sudheer Varma directorial as one of the best experiences in her career. Regina underwent training in Jiu-Jitsu to prepare for her character, under specialists from Chennai hired by the makers. “It feels amazing to train for the action sequences. I suffered injuries regularly but it was fun and a great experience,” she says. She also watched videos of several action films to get the hang of her role.

“We want to make the scenes look authentic, so we have been training hard,” she says, and reveals that that it was also challenging, because at times, she felt drained during the strenuous sessions. However, she stresses, “I understand my body and do not stretch myself beyond a point. My diet too was light.”
The Nakshatram star says she enjoys beating up baddies. “That’s the fun, right! It’s great to kick some butt,” she laughs.

In a career that spans around 15 years, Regina has played several roles and got closer to the audience with each outing. But is there a dream role that she wants to take up, we ask. “Nothing in specific,” she replies, but adds that she wants to better herself always. “I am a bit eccentric (smiles) and I do not show off, but I want to constantly excel in my career,” she says, signing off.
