I started my career with a Telugu film: Hema Malini
Hema Malini is currently shooting for a Telugu film Gautamiputra Satakarni in the temple town of Maheshwar, in Madhya Pradesh.
Says Hema gleefully, “I am enjoying the whole new experience, buying the most beautiful saris since Maheshwar is famous for it. But I am not buying these for myself, people here are gifting me. I am buying some for my aunts and my daughters back home in Mumbai.”
Regarding Gautamiputra Satakarni, she reveals: “Initially, I said no to the film as I don’t know Telugu. But the role is wonderful. I play the role of queen Gauthami and Balakrishna plays my son. He is an easy going co-star to work with. In fact, the entire team is very nice.”
She discloses that in between shooting scenes, Balakrishna shows her his father N.T. Rama Rao’s films on his mobile phone. “It’s an enjoyable experience,” she says.
On how she is able to do a Telugu film despite not knowing the language, she says, “Telugu is quite similar to my mother tongue Tamil. So I say my Telugu dialogues in Tamil, sometimes even in English. It’s actually quite a lot of fun. I started my career with a dance number in a Telugu film when I was only 17. Then, I did another Telugu film six years later. After that, I never got a chance to do any Telugu film until now.”
